Spotlight On: Activate Learning

We are so delighted to have welcomed the wonderful Activate Learning to Connect Reading!

Holly Perrett, Partnership Engagement Manager, took some time to answer some questions and tell us all about Activate Learning and how we can connect with all they’re doing.

Spotlight On: Activate Learning - Reading College & Institute of Technology

The Activate Learning group comprises a wide range of educational provision, all centred around—and driven by—our Learning Philosophy which helps us all understand how best our students learn and how we teach our learners effectively. We utilise the important relationship between the following elements: Brain, Motivation and Emotions. Our provision includes secondary, further and higher education, apprenticeships and workforce training, consultancy, international, learning companies. We have a common purpose to transform lives through learning. Our colleges are across three counties; Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Surrey. For Berkshire employers are colleges are located in Reading and Bracknell and Wokingham.

What was your biggest challenge last year?

A number of student opportunities were limited due to COVID, we are hoping with that these doors will be re-opened, and businesses will engage with students as we move forward.

What have you learned?

To stay resilient and be adaptable.

What has been your biggest creative triumph as an organisation?

As an FE College we are always being creative, introducing new courses, programmes and ideas to students. The biggest triumph this year was being awarded as an Institute of Technology, one of twelve in the UK from a new Government initiative. We have partnered with Milton Keynes College to become the South Central Institute of Technology offering digital apprenticeships and digital HNC courses at level 4 and 5 to learners.

What are you most looking forward to?

Seeing our new student cohort of digital learners on our apprenticeship and HNC programmes.

Why did you join Connect Reading?

To embrace the local talent and employers that work across a variety of sectors within the Thames Valley region, to absorb knowledge and make connections.

How can people connect with you and support what you’re doing?

I’d love to connect with you!
