We love our Connect Reading Trustees and we wanted to give you a chance to get to know them too.
We were delighted to welcome Paul to our Trustee Board earlier this year. After qualifying as a solicitor in 1999, Paul joined Heathrow Airport. During his 20 year career, at Heathrow, he has held leadership roles in infrastructure development, customer services and commercial revenue growth. He is adept at bringing teams together to innovate and drive through transformational business change in response to stakeholder needs. Having lived in Berkshire for over 30 years Paul is passionate about realising the Connect Reading mission to create a better Reading for everyone.
We’re so glad to have him on our team! We asked Paul a few questions to get to know him better and find out a bit more about why he decided to join us at Connect Reading.
Why did you decide to become part of Connect Reading?
I’ve lived and worked around Reading for over 30 years. Reading and its organisations have given me a great deal in terms of an education, a home, a career and support in all manner of ways. The lockdown gave me time to reflect and make a conscious decision to give back and the vision of Connect Reading really resonated with me. I’m delighted to have joined the Board and to be working with a great team of people committed to making a positive difference for all.
What is one thing you love about Reading?
I love the diverse food and drink available locally. I’ve become an ardant supporter of local farmers markets and am constantly amazed and delighted at the variety of delicous local produce. There are so many talented people out there making great food and drink which its a pleasure to support.
Can you tell us about your working experience so far?
My career has been in the legal profession and at Heathrow Airport. I’ve always been focussed on delivering great customer experiences and I do this by understanding requirements and bringing teams of people together to unlock their creativity to transform services and meet the needs of stakeholders. Joining Connect Reading and working in the charitable sector is a new experience for me and I am enjoying learning and finding ways to contribute. I’m also grateful for patient and knowledgable colleagues!
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I really enjoy being outside and exploring the local area, which means lots of walks along the Thames and visiting National Trust sites with my wife. I also enjoy the peace and hands on work of gardening and seeing my efforts come in to bloom.
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Adventurous, caring and loyal
What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself during the pandemic?
Its important for me to keep the mind and body active. I’ve taken up Pilates and meditation and they are both fantastic ways of staying mentally and physically fit.
What in your life is bringing you joy right now?
My wife and I are looking forward to the birth of our twins!*
*Since writing this, Paul’s twins have arrived and I’m sure are still bringing lots of joy (and less sleep!)
