partnership for Reading

Working with businesses in Reading - connecting people, organisations and projects

“I feel it is very important for the people of Reading - both in business and the local community -
to be actively working together to build a better, stronger community. Connect Reading is the vehicle for change; for developing these relationships and creating value for the Reading community
and I am delighted to be a patron for their cause.”

Sir John Madejski, Patron of Connect Reading

Since 2003, Connect Reading has created partnerships between the business, public and voluntary sectors to provide a better quality of life for everyone in Greater Reading. In this time, we have brokered over £1,750,000 of in-kind support for the community.

We are a registered charity and membership organisation that helps businesses based in Reading meet their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) objectives, and to get involved with community projects and initiatives. Connect Reading is widely respected for the quality of our advice and expertise, and for our vast local knowledge and established network of contacts.

Put most simply, we work with you and your organisation to connect you to the right people and projects, to make the biggest difference in the local area.

The benefits of working with us:

  • Increase your employee engagement through community activities and Team challenges
  • Meet your CSR objectives, and truly engage with your local community
  • Receive bespoke advice, information and guidance on how best to support the local community and to involve your employees in community activities
  • Gain stronger local brand recognition, social media content and positive PR for the support you give the local community
  • Use our forums and events to develop your business and community network, stay informed and share ideas with other business leaders
  • Be part of a network of companies that want to build a stronger community in the local area for the benefit of everyone

The types of activities that we deliver and broker are tailored to meet your company objectives, including:

  • Brokerage of redundant resources (furniture, IT resources and otherassets) to the voluntary and community sector - rather than sending them to landfill
  • Access to individual skilled volunteering opportunities for your staff
  • Matching to appropriate local charity partners
  • Access to employee education around key topics i.e.: mental health
  • Management of Community Projects
  • Research, brokerage and management of Team challenges
  • Introductions to schools and colleges
  • Regular updates on local news and initiatives that suit your interests

Some of the high-profile projects that we organise in Reading every year include:

  • The Pride of Reading Awards
  • The Giving Tree at Christmas
  • Connect Well donations to the elderly and the homeless in Winter time
  • Reading RESCUE - the bi-annual environmental clean-up event.

What our members say about us...

“Partnering with Connect Reading helps us deliver our community engagement strategy in an efficient way with maximum local impact.”
Kyocera Document Solutions

"It has been a real help to use Connect Reading as the eyes of the community and to tell us what the needs of the community are so that we know we are providing our services in the right place."
Hilton Reading

"Connect Reading has facilitated what we have done in regards to supporting local charities. It has given us the roots to doing what we are doing now. Our engagement with Connect Reading has meant that we could set up a furniture re-use scheme which put us in touch with local charities that benefit. If we did not have that root network, then we would not necessarily be doing that. So I think it has definitely made us think differently. It is more than just a certificate on the wall; it has got more meaning and depth."
